There are several
surprising truths about Hypnosis Training encountered by many people
who want to learn to become a hypnotist. The first truth about so
called hypnosis “certification” training is that legally you need
no kind of certification or training whatsoever to call yourself a
professional hypnotist or even to set up shop as one!
However, while there are no regulations requiring you to have training, there are in many countries, states and provinces regulations that define how you may describe yourself as a professional hypnotist. These regulations will also often govern the kind of services that you may offer as a Hypnotist and how you can describe those services.
So it is very important to check the pertinent regulations where you intend to practice before you get started, training or no training.
The second truth about hypnosis training and courses is that there are no accredited college degrees that I know of in hypnosis. Do not be misled by seeing that a school promotes itself along the lines of “State Licensed.” Licensing is a very different issue than being accredited.
Further, be aware that there is no recognized hypnosis authority or organization which can confer certification on you that has any legal value whatsoever. Any individual or organization can give hypnosis training and, whatever the extent and quality of that training, offer you an impressive certificate for having taken their course. You can then call yourself a certified hypnotist if you want to.
The third important truth about hypnosis training is that the quality of hypnosis training offered varies considerably from very poor to excellent. It is very important to do your research thoroughly before committing any time or money to a hypnosis trainer.
There are a few basic but key questions to ask of any one who provides Hypnosis training. These include:
These questions may seem obvious to some but be aware, some people will “qualify” as a hypnotist and before you know it they have turned round and become a hypnosis trainer themselves.
Personally, I would not want to train with anyone who has not made a successful full-time living from the profession by working with clients one one for at least 5 years. I would also prefer to study with a trainer who still maintains a practice seeing clients as well as offering training. These trust worthy trainers do exist. One of the biggest failings of many hypnosis courses is that students do not learn how to successfully market their services once they complete the course. When you know how, it is very easy and costs nothing to start having people discover your hypnosis services. I have fully explained how to do this in the free 3 Step Hypnosis Marketing Plan.
So, hypnosis training is critical to start you on the road to success but beware of the pit falls that exist in the hypnosis training world.
