James, could you please briefly introduce yourself to our readers:
I am a Life Enhancement Hypnotist who enables people to lead healthier, happier and possibly longer lives by helping them to let go of unhealthy habits and stress.
How long have you been a hypnotist?
I began working with clients in 1995.
What attracted you to a career in Hypnosis?
I was always curious about hypnosis since a young age and when the opportunity to take a certification course presented itself I jumped on it. There is a tremendous sense of satisfaction when you can help a client reach his or her goals.
Have you experienced any personal benefits from using hypnosis for yourself that you would care to share with our readers?
Yes, I used to have a tremendous amount of discomfort when it came to public speaking; blushing, shaking, trembling-the whole bit. Hypnosis enabled me to move past that to the point where I actually enjoy giving presentations and even get paid for it.
Can you tell us about some of the teachers who have influenced your approach to hypnosis the most?
Some of the teachers that have helped me develop my skills the most have included Dr. Richard Harte, Don Mottin, Michael Ellner and Dr. Richard Nongard.
What issues do your clients typically come to you for help with.
Do you find any particular phase of your hypnosis work to be of special interest to you?
I enjoy one on one sessions and small group programs equally.
What are the three most important bits of advice would you give a client before their first session of hypnosis?
What is the most frequent misunderstanding about hypnosis that you encounter with clients or the public?
That if hypnosis "works" the client doesn't have to put forth any effort towards reaching his or her goals.
If you could give potential and beginning hypnotists at least one piece of advice, what would it be?
The process of learning in this field never stops, you will never know it all. Make sure you connect with other hypnotists who have a positive mindset about the profession, don't try to do it all on your own.
As we both know, Hypnosis as a healing and helping modality has existed for hundreds of years now. However, it is more widely known and more accepted in some areas more than others. How would you rate the public acceptance of hypnosis/hypnotherapy in New Jersey?
I believe the acceptance of hypnosis in my region is OK in that I haven't noticed any particular hostility. However I believe that the awareness of the individual practitioners in our area is low and has a lot of room for improvement.
What would your favourite book on hypnosis be that you would recommend to others?
Power Hypnosis by John Cerbone.
